CHAMPLAIN — It was a tale of two teams at the net Monday, as NCCS and NAC both walked away with wins in a thrilling CVAC tennis showdown. The Bobcats edged out a 3-2 victory in boys' tennis, powered by a clean sweep of the doubles matches. Their doubles teams showed remarkable composure, with two of the three matches going the distance in three sets.
In singles action, however, NAC's Kaze Carpenter and Ben Bresnahan stole the spotlight, winning in straight sets at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. The Bobcats' doubles trio of Shane Gilmore and Kameron Chinchilla at No. 1, Brycen LaBombard and Jake Manor at No. 2, and Milo Wilson and Corbin Darmour at No. 3 all delivered gritty performances to secure the team win.
On the girls' side, it was a completely different story. NCCS dominated with a flawless 5-0 sweep, showcasing depth and precision across the board. Allie Langlois and Talia Peryer set the tone with straight-set singles wins at the top two positions. The doubles teams followed suit, with Lucy Hicks and Shai Juneau, Alexa Gregory and Tenley Peryer, and Lexi Arno and Grace Prairie all winning in straight sets to cap off a perfect afternoon.
Meanwhile, in Clintonville, the Spartans and Patriots split their match, with Saranac's boys and AuSable's girls emerging victorious. The Saranac boys leaned on Pablo Ontanon and Rodrigo Del Moral, who cruised to straight-set wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while Jasper Girard and Isaac Couture added a key doubles win at the top spot. On the girls' side, AuSable edged out a hard-fought 3-2 win, fueled by Ava Belzile's singles triumph and strong doubles play from Veronica and Becca Uss, as well as Abi Debusk and Aubrey Aplin.
Whether it's the Bobcats' doubles dominance or the Patriots' balanced attack, these matches prove that CVAC tennis is heating up—and every point matters.
