Per a recent report, San Jose Sharks star Macklin Celebrini has been added to the Team Canada roster for the upcoming Men’s World Hockey Championship.

TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger also reported that Mark Scheifele, Mathew Barzal, Morgan Rielly and Penn State forward/projected No. 1 overall pick in the approaching NHL Draft Gavin McKenna have all also committed to representing Canada. The 2026 IIHF Men's World Championship is set to take place in Zurich and Fribourg, Switzerland from May 15-31. Team USA will enter the tournament as the defending gold medalist.

Canada is hunting its first gold medal at the event since 2023.

At only 19, Celebrini finished the 2025-26 NHL season with 115 points, setting a new single-season franchise record for the Sharks, surpassing Joe Thornton's 114-point season in 2006-07.

Celebrini also represented Hockey Canada at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, finishing with 10 points (five points, five assists) and winning a silver medal.

In addition, the young San Jose star scored three goals and three assists over eight games at last year’s World Championship.

Team Canada has added some big names to its Men’s World roster. Celebrini, McKenna, Scheifele, Barzal all committed. Morgan Rielly has agreed to go to Switzerland as well. More to come.

McKenna finished tied for fifth in the NCAA with 51 points (15 goals, 36 assists) and was second with 1.46 points per game in 35 games this season.

Canada posted a perfect 6-0 record in round robin robin play last year at the Men’s World Hockey Championship before being upset by Denmark, 2-1, in the quarter-final.
