The resurgent veteran powered home a gritty overtime winner to erase an early deficit and push his team to a 2-0 series lead.

In a performance that's quickly becoming the story of the playoffs, Taylor Hall delivered yet another clutch moment for the Carolina Hurricanes, powering home a gritty overtime winner to give his team a commanding 2-0 series lead over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Who would have guessed that a 34-year-old winger, who started the season on the fourth line, would emerge as the Hurricanes' playoff MVP? Hall, the first overall pick in 2010 and the 2018 Hart Trophy winner, has been steadily turning back the clock since mid-season. Now, he's looking like one of the best players in the league, having recorded a point in every postseason game so far.

Monday night at Lenovo Center was no exception. After the Hurricanes erased an early 2-0 deficit to force overtime, and with the Flyers applying heavy pressure, Carolina found their counterpunch. Sean Walker transitioned the puck through the neutral zone and dropped it for Hall, who used the space created by Walker's net-front drive to power to the middle, fire a shot, and then bury his own rebound for the winner.

"The one thing about him that we know is he wants to make a difference," said Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour. "And that goal, to me, kind of sums it up. He's doing whatever he has to do to help the team. He's been just a great player for us."

For Hall, the moment was as memorable as it was gritty. "When you score in overtime, it seems like parts of your memory kind of go," he said. "It was a gritty goal."

With the series shifting to Philadelphia, the Hurricanes will look to keep their momentum rolling, while the Flyers will need to find an answer for a resurgent veteran who is proving that he still has plenty left in the tank.
