Tarik Skubal struck out a season-high 10 over six innings of one-run ball, Kerry Carpenter hit a solo homer and the Detroit Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox 4-1 on Saturday, ending their nine-game road losing streak. It was the Tigers’ longest winless road stretch since a 10-gamer in 2010. Rookie Kevin McGonigle had an RBI single and two hits.

Tarik Skubal delivered a masterclass on the mound Saturday, striking out a season-high 10 batters over six dominant innings to power the Detroit Tigers to a 4-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox. More importantly, the win snapped a painful nine-game road losing streak for the Tigers, their longest such skid since 2010.

Kerry Carpenter provided the offensive spark with a solo home run, part of a three-run fourth inning that broke the game open. Rookie Kevin McGonigle also shined, contributing an RBI single as part of his two-hit day. The Tigers' bullpen sealed the deal, with Tyler Holton tossing two scoreless innings before veteran closer Kenley Jansen locked down his fifth save of the year.

For Skubal, this was a statement performance. The left-hander, who carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning in his last start, was in command from the outset. He worked out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fifth, limiting the damage to just one run and showcasing the elite stuff that makes him the ace of Detroit's staff.

The Red Sox, meanwhile, continued a troubling trend. Starter Brayan Bello was chased after four innings, and Boston fell to 0-12 this season when their starter fails to complete six innings. After a dramatic walk-off win Friday night, the Sox offense was quiet again, managing just four hits for the second consecutive game.

This was a crucial character win for the Tigers, who finally found a way to close out a game away from Comerica Park. With Skubal leading the charge, Detroit will look to carry this momentum forward as they aim to climb the standings in the American League Central.
