The TAPPS state track and field meet in Hewitt delivered a weekend of unforgettable performances, with athletes from FW Nolan, John Paul II, and Ursuline taking home gold medals. The competition was fierce, showcasing the depth of talent across Texas private schools.
In the team standings, St. Thomas claimed the top spot with 110 points, followed closely by Concordia Lutheran at 109 and Argyle Liberty Christian with 92. Nolan Catholic secured fourth place with 71 points, while Plano John Paul II rounded out the top five with 64.
The field events were particularly impressive. Finnegan Klein of St. Dominic Savio cleared 6-06.00 to win the high jump, while Malachi Mitchell of Argyle Liberty Christian took second at 6-04.00. In the long jump, Jett Jackson of John Paul II soared to 21-06.75 for the gold, ahead of Marcellus McGill's 21-02.50.
Nolan Catholic's Sean Smith II dominated the triple jump with a winning mark of 44-06.00, while Jacob Thompson of Argyle Liberty Christian placed second at 43-07.75. In the pole vault, Ruben Abney of St. Thomas cleared 14-00.00 to take the title.
The throwing events saw standout performances from Braden Alvarado of Concordia Lutheran, who won both the discus (154-10) and shot put (56-05.00). Wesley Timmons of Argyle Liberty Christian took second in discus at 152-08.
On the track, Carson Clark of Concordia Lutheran was a force, winning the 100 meters in 10.55 seconds and the 200 meters in 21.70 seconds. Nolan Catholic's Lyrix Sallee showcased his versatility, taking the 400 meters in 48.43 seconds and the 800 meters in 1:55.84.
John Jack Boland of San Antonio Antonian was the distance star, winning the 1,600 meters in 4:12.13 and the 3,200 meters in 9:00.23. Jett Jackson of John Paul II added to his long jump gold by winning the 110 hurdles in 14.04 seconds.
