The Chinese star knocked out the Dagestani contender in the fourth round of the main event.

Tang Kai proved once again why he's the king of ONE Championship's featherweight division, delivering a masterclass performance that silenced his toughest challenger to date. The Chinese superstar stopped Shamil Gasanov via TKO at 2:41 of the fourth round, successfully defending his ONE Featherweight MMA World Title and earning a well-deserved US$50,000 performance bonus at ONE Fight Night 43. The event, which aired live from Bangkok's iconic Lumpinee Stadium on Friday, May 15, showcased Tang at his absolute best.

The Dagestani contender came into the bout with a reputation as perhaps the most complete featherweight Tang had ever faced. With a near-flawless record, world-class grappling, and submission skills that could trap even the most cautious champion, Gasanov seemed like a genuine threat. But Tang didn't blink. From the opening bell, he had answers for everything his opponent threw at him.

The first round set the tone. Tang stuffed takedown after takedown, sprawling with authority every time Gasanov shot in, and punctuating his defense with sharp punches that made the challenger think twice about trying again. The message was crystal clear: this title wasn't going anywhere.

Gasanov adjusted in the second round, abandoning his wrestling game and opting to trade strikes instead. That played right into Tang's hands. China's first-ever male MMA World Champion, training out of Sunkin International Fight Club, peppered his opponent's face with jabs throughout the round, winning every exchange while the frustrated Dagestani struggled to find an answer.

The Russian returned to his takedown-heavy approach in the third, but Tang continued to shrug off his shots with ease. He then began targeting Gasanov's lead leg with punishing low kicks, slowly eroding his ability to shoot. A telling right hand at the end of the round underscored just how completely the champion was controlling the main event battle.

The low kicks kept coming in the fourth round, bone crashing into muscle until one finally buckled Gasanov's leg, forcing a desperate takedown attempt. He briefly gained dominant position on the ground, but Tang reversed and locked him in a cradle. Both men returned to their feet, and the Chinese dynamo unleashed a devastating knee to the head before whipping another low kick into the same damaged leg. Gasanov crumpled into the fetal position, and Tang rained down the final blows to seal his victory.

This performance cements Tang Kai's status as one of the most dominant champions in ONE Championship history. For fans of the sport, it's a reminder that true champions find a way to win, no matter what their opponent brings to the cage.
