Tahlequah soccer has finally broken through, and the Tigers and Lady Tigers are making it clear—this isn't a one-hit wonder. After a historic playoff return in 2027, both programs are already eyeing a repeat performance next season.
For the Lady Tigers, it was a milestone year. They stepped onto the postseason pitch for the first time since 2018, falling to Coweta in the first round. But head coach Scottie McKee sees this as the start of something bigger. "This team deserved it—they have great seniors and even stronger underclassmen. They know how to win now, and they expect to be back here for the next three years," McKee said. "We've been the underdog for eight years. Now we expect to get in."
Despite losing key seniors like Audi Espinoza, Avrie Baker, and Lorelie Espinoza, the Lady Tigers have a deep freshman class that logged varsity minutes this season, building a foundation for sustained success. McKee is already shifting the mentality: "I want them to feel like they belong here, not like they just snuck in."
Across the field, the Tigers are in a stronger position roster-wise. After falling to Bishop Kelley in their first postseason appearance in 11 seasons, head coach Greg Hall is optimistic. With only three seniors graduating—including standout goalkeeper Christian Sosa—the Tigers will rely on sophomore Christian Falcon between the posts next season.
Returning juniors like Gabe Czlonka, Alex Tinajero, and Caston Wilson will anchor the squad as seniors. "We have a solid group of guys, and we're bringing up some good eighth graders," Hall said. "This experience will fuel us. We have a strong foundation to build on."
With both programs riding the momentum of a playoff breakthrough and hungry for more, Tahlequah soccer is no longer just hoping to make the postseason—they're expecting it.
