Nkosi Tafari headed in Son Heung-Min’s free kick in second-half stoppage time and LAFC beat Toluca FC 2-1 on Wednesday night in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinal. The aggregate winner will be decided on May 6 in Toluca. Timothy Tillman gave LAFC a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute with his second goal in 17 games across all competitions this season.

In a thrilling CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinal first leg, LAFC snatched a dramatic 2-1 victory over Toluca FC on Wednesday night, thanks to a stoppage-time header from Nkosi Tafari. The match-winner came from a perfectly placed free kick by Son Heung-Min, leaving fans at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on the edge of their seats.

The action kicked off in the second half, with Timothy Tillman breaking the deadlock in the 51st minute. The midfielder controlled Son's pass with his chest before calmly slotting it past Toluca goalkeeper Luis García, marking just his second goal in 17 appearances this season across all competitions.

LAFC thought they had doubled their lead just three minutes later when Jacob Shaffelburg redirected Sergi Palencia's cross into the net. However, the goal was ruled out after a lengthy VAR review for offside, keeping the scoreline tight.

Toluca capitalized on that momentum shift in the 73rd minute. Jesús Ricardo Angulo delivered a stunning bending shot from the top of the box, finding the back of the net for his 12th goal of the season and leveling the match at 1-1.

The first half had been a defensive showcase, thanks to LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. The veteran shot-stopper produced a spectacular double save, first denying Nicolás Castro's close-range header with a lightning-quick reaction, then scrambling to block Jesús Gallardo's rebound attempt at the near post.

Notably, LAFC were without key players Denis Bouanga—who has five goals in the tournament—and defender Eddie Segura, both sidelined due to yellow card accumulation. Despite these absences, the team showed resilience, setting up a dramatic second leg on May 6 in Toluca, where the aggregate winner will be decided.
