Los Angeles pulled out two much-needed scores via some late heroics.

It was shaping up to be another frustrating night for LAFC. With a 1-1 draw looming and the final whistle just moments away, the Black and Gold needed a spark. Enter Son Heung-min and Nkosi Tafari.

In the opening minute of stoppage time, Son delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, and Tafari rose above the defense to power a header home. The BMO Stadium crowd erupted as the ball hit the back of the net, sealing a dramatic 2-1 victory and giving LAFC a crucial edge in their Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinal tie.

The win extends LAFC's unbeaten run in tournament play to 5-0-2 this season, and they've now gone seven straight home matches without a loss in the competition. More importantly, the Black and Gold take a 2-1 aggregate lead into next Wednesday's second leg in Toluca—a venue sitting 8,750 feet above sea level.

"We're a strong team on the road," Tafari said after the match. "We know about the elevation. It's going to be difficult, but we handled it in Cruz Azul, so we just have to go there and get the job done."

The victory was even more impressive considering LAFC was without two key contributors. Denis Bouanga and Eddie Segura each served a one-game suspension for yellow card accumulation, leaving the team shorthanded. Despite a sluggish first half that produced zero shots on goal, LAFC's defense held firm thanks to veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The French international delivered a moment of brilliance in the 44th minute, making a stunning double save to deny Toluca midfielder Nicolás Castro and defender Jesús Gallardo in quick succession. Lloris entered the match ranked third among tournament goalkeepers with 21 saves and an 84% save rate through the first six matches.

The breakthrough finally came in the 51st minute when Timothy Tillman collected a short pass from Son and fired a right-footed strike across his body, beating Toluca goalkeeper Luis García. It was Tillman's second goal of the tournament and his first since February 17.

"Timmy arrived at the right time," LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo said. "He's been working hard in training, and it paid off tonight."

With a one-goal lead and a trip to the altitude of Toluca ahead, LAFC knows the job is far from finished. But if Wednesday night proved anything, it's that this team knows how to deliver when it matters most.
