Syracuse Olympic Sports update: softball season comes to a close

A quiet weekend with finals happening and championships approaching

As the spring sports season heats up and finals week approaches, it's been a relatively quiet weekend for Syracuse's Olympic Sports teams—but there's still plenty to unpack as championships loom on the horizon.

The No. 9 Syracuse women's crew team took a well-deserved weekend off, using the time to sharpen their training ahead of the ACC Championships, which kick off on May 15th. Meanwhile, the No. 12 Syracuse men's crew squad is also idle until the Eastern Sprints in Worcester on May 17th, where they'll look to make a splash on the national stage.

On the diamond, the Syracuse softball season came to a bittersweet close. The Orange were swept by the No. 13 Virginia Tech Hokies in a tough series, falling in each game by double-digit runs over just five innings. This marks the second consecutive year Syracuse has failed to qualify for the ACC Tournament—a stark contrast to their four straight appearances from 2021 to 2024. But the team took a moment to honor their seniors: Ness, Jadyn, Peyton, MJ, Julianna, Jackie, Rose, May, and Gabby. The program's heartfelt tribute, shared on social media, reminded everyone that once an Orange, always an Orange.

Despite the season-ending struggles, individual standouts shone bright. Jadyn Burney led the team with a .317 batting average, racking up hits and swiping 20 stolen bases. Madison Knight was a force at the plate, crushing 15 home runs, driving in 38 runs, and drawing 29 walks—while also anchoring the pitching staff with 9 wins on the mound. Their performances are a testament to the grit and talent in this program, and fans will be eager to see how they build on this foundation next year.

On the track, Syracuse had a strong showing this weekend. Jamir Brown blazed to a 13.39-second finish in the 110-meter hurdles, a time that ranks among the top ten in the nation this season and sits just shy of the school record of 13.28. Peyton Rollins also impressed, posting a 13.97 in the 100-meter hurdles, which now stands as the ninth-fastest time in the ACC this year. The Orange will head to Cornell on Tuesday for their final tune-up before the ACC Outdoor Championships—a chance to dial in their form and build momentum for the postseason.

Whether you're gearing up for championship season or just looking to rep your favorite team, now's the perfect time to stock up on Syracuse gear. From track-ready tees to softball-inspired styles, our collection has everything you need to cheer on the Orange in style.
