The Syracuse Orange men's basketball roster is undergoing a significant transformation this offseason, with the transfer portal bringing both new arrivals and notable departures.
Headlining the incoming talent is forward Tasman Goodrick, who announced his commitment to follow former Siena coach Gerry McNamara to Syracuse. Goodrick, who joins teammate Gavin Doty in making the move, showed promising potential in his limited action last season, averaging 9.7 points and 7.3 rebounds before a knee injury cut his campaign short in December.
Goodrick becomes the third new addition for Coach McNamara, joining Doty and Slovenian wing prospect Mark Morano Mahmutovič. This influx of talent aims to bolster the Orange frontcourt as they look to build a competitive ACC squad.
However, the portal giveth and the portal taketh away. Syracuse is set to lose backup center Akir Souare, who has entered his name into the transfer portal. Souare appeared in 29 games last season, providing depth behind starter William Kyle and averaging 0.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in just over eight minutes per contest.
Souare's departure marks the seventh player from the 2025-26 roster to enter the portal, joining a list that includes key names like Donnie Freeman and Naithan George. This level of roster churn is becoming commonplace in the modern college basketball landscape, as programs aggressively retool each summer.
With the offseason in full swing, Orange fans can expect more moves as Coach McNamara continues to shape his roster for the challenges of ACC play ahead.
