The Syracuse Orange men's basketball program has secured a major local talent, landing a commitment from four-star point guard Ryan Moesch. The Chittenango native is heading home to Central New York, choosing to play for head coach Gerry McNamara after a standout prep career.

Originally signed to play for Siena, Moesch will now take his talents to the JMA Dome. The 6-foot lefty spent the last two seasons honing his skills at Cushing Academy in Massachusetts, where he was rated as the 15th-best point guard in his class by 247 Sports. His decision flips his initial commitment from Siena over Providence into a homecoming story for Orange fans.

Interestingly, Moesch's game draws a direct comparison to the man who will now coach him. His prep coach, James Cormier, noted the resemblance, saying, "He’s got a little Gerry to him... He doesn’t necessarily look the part. (But) whoever you put in front of him he’s better than." This high praise suggests Syracuse is getting a savvy, competitive floor general in the mold of their legendary coach.

Moesch becomes the second incoming freshman for the Orange this summer. His commitment is a significant building block for Coach McNamara as he constructs his roster, with attention now likely turning to the transfer portal to add more pieces for the upcoming season. For a program looking to re-establish its identity, landing a skilled local prospect like Moesch is a promising step forward.
