Syracuse Orange basketball is making a key addition to kick off the Gerry McNamara era. According to a report from CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein, Siena standout and Fulton, NY native Gavin Doty has committed to Syracuse via the transfer portal.
The 6'5" guard is coming off a sensational season where he averaged 18 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game, earning First-Team All-MAAC honors and MAAC Tournament MVP. He led Siena to an NCAA Tournament bid, where they famously pushed the Duke Blue Devils to the limit, showcasing the competitive toughness that will be vital in the ACC.
Doty is expected to be a foundational piece for Coach McNamara as he builds his new culture with the Orange. While his three-point shooting will need to develop at the higher level, his high basketball IQ, rebounding from the guard position, and clutch free-throw shooting (a career 83.6%) are immediate assets. This hometown talent is poised to bring grit and scoring to the Carrier Dome floor next season.
