Dungannon Swifts bounce back from Irish Cup final heartache to book their place in the European play-off semi-final with victory over 10-man Carrick Rangers.

After the heartbreak of missing out on a second consecutive Irish Cup title, the Dungannon Swifts showed incredible resilience to bounce back and secure their spot in the European play-off semi-finals with a commanding win over a 10-man Carrick Rangers side at Stangmore Park.

Rodney McAree's squad now sets its sights on a Saturday evening showdown against Cliftonville at Solitude (18:00 BST). The stakes couldn't be higher—the winner will face Linfield at Windsor Park on Tuesday night for a shot at European glory.

The match was a rollercoaster from the start. Leo Alves and Caolan Marron delivered stunning strikes, putting the Swifts in control despite a Nathan Gartside red card and a Luke McCullough equalizer for the visitors. Kealan Dillon sealed the deal under the lights, wrapping up a comfortable victory for the home side.

Early trouble struck when captain Danny Wallace was forced off after a challenge with Adam Lecky, prompting Peter Maguire to step into defense after just 10 minutes. But the Swifts didn't let that setback derail them.

On the 21st minute, Alves unleashed a breathtaking free-kick that left Gartside with no chance, curling the ball just inside the far post with his left foot after Andrew Mitchell was fouled by McCullough. Carrick's night went from bad to worse when Gartside was sent off in the 32nd minute for handling the ball outside his area—referee Shane Andrews had no choice but to show the red card.

Down to 10 men, Carrick responded almost instantly. Captain McCullough bundled the ball home from inside the six-yard box after Adam Lecky flicked on a Paul Heatley free-kick. But the Swifts weren't done yet.

Just three minutes into the second half, Marron restored the lead with a sizzling 25-yard strike that rocketed into the top right corner, giving substitute goalkeeper Lorcan Donnelly absolutely no chance. Stephen Baxter's side fought hard to find an equalizer, but instead fell further behind with 20 minutes left. Dillon fired past Donnelly with a pinpoint first-time strike after a perfectly threaded pass from Tiernan Kelly sliced through the visitors' defense.

Having missed out on lifting the Irish Cup after a 3-2 loss to Coleraine, Dungannon still has European football within reach. For Carrick, the dream is over—but for the Swifts, the journey continues.
