Eight-year-old Emily Marques of Swansea has earned a coveted invitation to the Premier SuperCopa, an elite youth soccer tournament reserved for the nation's top young players. The event takes place June 18–21 in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, bringing together U9 through U12 boys and girls teams from across the United States.
Known to friends and family as "Emi," Marques first fell in love with soccer at age four. "It's fun and it's my favorite sport," she says with the infectious enthusiasm that has driven her development. For the past three years, she has honed her skills with Bayside FC, a club team that has helped her stand out on the field.
Her selection to the Premier SuperCopa is a testament to years of dedication—win or lose, Marques believes in pushing forward and giving her best effort. It's a milestone that not only rewards her hard work but also puts her community on the map in the youth soccer landscape.
Marques draws inspiration from the U.S. Women's National Team and enjoys watching documentaries about legendary player Mia Hamm. Her favorite player to admire, however, is Brazilian star Marta Vieira da Silva. With dreams of one day becoming a professional soccer player, Marques is already following in the footsteps of her heroes.
Her biggest supporters include older sister Olivia, 11, younger brother Thomas, 6, and the rest of her family, who never miss a chance to watch her compete. She currently attends Luther Elementary School in Swansea.
As the Premier SuperCopa approaches, Marques represents not just her club and family, but a new generation of young athletes proving that age is no barrier to elite competition.
