Big changes are coming to the Supercoppa Italiana! Lega Serie A President Luigi De Siervo has confirmed that the 2026-27 edition will not be held in Saudi Arabia, opening the door for exciting new host locations like the United States or even a return to Italy.
For the last few years, Saudi Arabia has been the home of Italian football's season-opening showpiece. The most recent edition, won by Napoli in December 2025, was played in Riyadh. However, the contract option for Saudi organizers to host next season has been declined, sending the tournament on a new journey.
Speaking to GR Parlamento Radio RAI, De Siervo explained: "It's a complicated matter... we can say it will not be in Saudi Arabia. There is a theory we could play in the United States, and another international idea, but also that of playing for a year in Italy."
The Supercoppa will continue to use its popular Final Four format, featuring semi-finals between the Serie A champions, Coppa Italia winners, and their respective runners-up. The winners then clash for the trophy. This creates high-stakes drama right from the opening whistle—perfect for fans looking to gear up in their team's latest kit.
There is one logistical twist, though. With Inter Milan having won both the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia, an extra team will need to be drafted in to complete the four-team lineup. The exact venue and stadiums will be determined once a host is confirmed, with the tournament traditionally played on neutral ground.
For Italian football fans, this shift could mean a chance to see the action live in a new setting—or even a nostalgic return to Italian soil. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops!
