Inter Milan's rising star Petar Sucic is embracing comparisons to compatriot Marcelo Brozovic, declaring himself "happy" with the lofty expectations as he sets his sights on a long-term future at San Siro.
The Croatian midfielder, in his debut season with the Nerazzurri, has already made a significant impact—helping the club secure a stunning domestic double by clinching both the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia trophy. Inter's 2-0 victory over Lazio in Wednesday's Coppa Italia Final capped off a dream campaign for the 23-year-old.
"I'm lucky to play for this amazing club," Sucic said during a post-match press conference. "I can play everywhere to help the team, and in the end, the most important thing is to win the games. Doesn't matter where I play—I don't have a favourite position."
The comparisons to Brozovic, a fellow Croatian who became an Inter legend during his eight-year stint, have only fueled Sucic's ambition. "Brozovic is a great player. I only have good words for him. I'm happy when they compare him to me," he said. "I try to do my best to help the team. The more you play, the better you get. I'm happy with this first year, and I hope to do big things with Inter in the future."
Sucic's hunger for growth is clear: "I want to make a big leap." And with the Nerazzurri's relentless winning culture, he's in the perfect place to do just that.
The celebrations are just getting started. Inter will lift the Scudetto trophy at San Siro on Sunday after their home clash against Hellas Verona, followed by an open-top bus parade through the streets of Milan. Sucic is already thinking about the fans who have embraced him.
"Amazing numbers in the stadiums and in the city. We need all people in Milan to be Nerazzurri," he said. "I saw how important it is for the people in Milan and the fans. They stay with us and support us. I'm glad to play with this amazing club. It's a special feeling, in my first year here. I'm so happy."
For a player drawing comparisons to one of Inter's modern greats, Sucic is writing his own story—one trophy at a time.
