Shubman Gill delivered a batting masterclass, steering the Gujarat Titans to a thrilling five-wicket victory over a struggling Kolkata Knight Riders. The win deepens KKR's early-season crisis, leaving them winless after six matches in the tournament.
Chasing a target of 181, Gill was in sublime touch from the outset. He dismantled the KKR bowling attack with a breathtaking 86 off just 50 balls, a knock studded with eight fours and four sixes. His dominance ensured Gujarat always stayed ahead in the chase, even as he fell near the end of the 17th over with 23 runs still needed.
The Knight Riders' bowlers, to their credit, dragged the contest into the final over, creating a tense finish. However, needing just five runs from the last six deliveries, the Titans crossed the line with two balls to spare, despite the late dismissal of Glenn Phillips for 19. Contributions from Jos Buttler (25 off 15) provided crucial early momentum in the chase.
Earlier, KKR's innings was a tale of two halves. After slumping to 37-3 in the powerplay, a brilliant counter-attacking innings from Cameron Green, who scored his first fifty of the season, sparked a recovery. He powered KKR to 147-4, but the innings then spectacularly collapsed, losing the last six wickets for just 41 runs to be bowled out for 180. Kagiso Rabada was the chief destroyer for Gujarat, finishing with excellent figures of 3-29.
The result solidifies Gujarat's position in the top four, while KKR remain anchored to the bottom of the table with a solitary point, searching desperately for a turnaround in form.
