The world's best golfers are descending on Aronimink Golf Club for what promises to be an unforgettable PGA Championship—and this year's field is nothing short of spectacular. With 97 of the top 100 players in the world teeing off, including Rory McIlroy and defending champion Scottie Scheffler, the competition is set to be the most intense of the season.
McIlroy arrives with a renewed sense of purpose. Just 12 months ago, he was still riding the high of his first Masters victory, which completed a career Grand Slam. That whirlwind year also included a Ryder Cup triumph and a second Green Jacket, and now the Northern Irishman is hungry for more. "Coming into this tournament feels a lot different than what it did last year," McIlroy shared. "I feel like I've got some nice clear road ahead to try to get some more of these majors." A seventh major title would put him in legendary company alongside Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, and Bobby Jones.
Even a nagging blister on his right pinky toe—which cut short his Tuesday practice round—isn't expected to slow him down. McIlroy was back on the course Wednesday and is ready to compete.
Aronimink itself is a beast of a course. Renovated by Gil Hanse in 2018, this par-70, 7,394-yard layout has shed many of its trees but gained a staggering 174 bunkers. The par-4 11th hole alone features more than 20 sand traps, and uphill approach shots into sloping greens will test even the most precise players. "Strategy off the tee is pretty nonexistent," McIlroy noted. "It's basically bash driver down there and then figure it out from there. The greens are the main focus this week."
This course has a rich history, too. It hosted the 1962 PGA Championship, won by Gary Player, and more recently the 2020 Women's PGA Championship and the 2018 BMW Championship. Now, with the strongest field in golf assembled, Aronimink is ready to crown its next champion.
Whether you're following the action from the fairways or from home, this is a tournament you won't want to miss. Gear up for the PGA Championship with the perfect outfit—because every great round starts with the right gear.
