Manchester United's defensive setup isn't causing sleepless nights at INEOS just yet—the club's priority this summer is revamping the midfield. But with the transfer window approaching, the Red Devils might need to rethink their strategy.

The backline has some bright spots. Harry Maguire, ever the reliable presence, just got a contract extension. And 19-year-old Ayden Heaven is turning heads with his commanding style and sharp positional sense. However, the injury-prone duo of Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt has left a gap that could be filled by a new center-back.

Enter Strahinja Pavlovic. According to Calciomercato's Daniele Longo, the AC Milan defender has caught the eye of Europe's elite after a remarkable turnaround. The 23-year-old Serbian moved to Milan from RB Salzburg in 2024 and needed time to settle in Italy. Now, he's enjoying a standout season at the heart of the Rossoneri's defense.

Standing at an imposing 6'4", Pavlovic is a physical force—aggressive in aerial duels and ground battles alike, yet surprisingly composed on the ball. His left-footed style and no-nonsense approach have drawn comparisons to United legend Nemanja Vidic since his early days, making him an appealing target for top clubs.

Longo reports that several teams, including United and Chelsea, have already made inquiries ahead of the summer window. But Milan won't let him go cheaply—they're demanding €50 million (£43.2 million) to part ways. At this point, Chelsea seems more likely to make a strong push, while United might focus on strengthening midfield and attack first.

Interestingly, Milan's financial concerns could force a squad overhaul, potentially leading to sales of high-profile stars like Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic—both of whom United are reportedly keen on. For now, Pavlovic remains a tantalizing option for a defense that could use a Vidic-like presence.
