From Barcelona to Stockport and a second Wembley final—Louie Barry's career has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. The 22-year-old forward, once hailed as a "wonderkid," is now making headlines for all the right reasons after scoring a stunning goal to send Stockport County to Wembley.

"It felt unbelievable, something I've never felt before," Barry said after curling in a beautiful opener in the League One play-off semi-final second leg against Stevenage. His strike propelled the Hatters to a 2-0 victory and a 3-0 aggregate win, earning them a spot at the home of English football.

This will be Barry's second trip to Wembley this season. Just a month ago, he featured for Stockport in the Vertu Trophy final, a loss to Luton Town. Now, he's back on the big stage, ready to chase promotion glory.

It's a far cry from the dizzying heights of his teenage years. Seven years ago, at just 16, Barry was described as "one of the best young players in English football." He had just secured the move every young footballer dreams of—joining Spanish giants Barcelona. Training at La Masia, the legendary academy that produced Lionel Messi, Lamine Yamal, and Andres Iniesta, Barry seemed destined for stardom.

But the dream didn't last. After just 10 youth-team appearances, Barry returned to the Midlands, with Aston Villa paying a €1 million fee (around £880,000) to bring him home. "It sends a powerful message about the ambition of this football club," said Villa academy manager Mark Harrison at the time.

Since then, Barry's path has been anything but straightforward. Despite boasting a perfect 100% goals-to-games ratio for Villa's first team, his chances have been limited. Instead, he's embarked on a journey through nine loan spells, from the biggest clubs to the smallest venues—including a memorable goal against Premier League champions Manchester City along the way.

Now, on his third loan spell with Stockport County, Barry is proving that sometimes the road less traveled leads to the most rewarding destinations. As he prepares for another Wembley showdown, one thing is clear: this "wonderkid" is writing his own story, one goal at a time.
