Men's basketball coach Steve Drabyn pointed to one thing in particular for his move from Bethel University to Marian University.

In a move that highlights the personal side of coaching transitions, Steve Drabyn is departing Bethel University to lead the men's basketball program at Marian University. After seven successful seasons with the Pilots, Drabyn cites family as the primary catalyst for his decision to return closer to his Indianapolis-area roots.

Drabyn, who compiled an impressive 118-61 record at Bethel, will officially assume his new role at Marian on April 20. His tenure with the Pilots was marked by consistent success, including four NAIA National Tournament appearances and an NCCAA national championship in 2023.

"First and foremost, this is about my family," Drabyn stated. While expressing deep gratitude for his time at Bethel, he emphasized the draw of being near extended family in Indiana. With four young children and multiple relatives in the Indianapolis region, the move to Marian represents a significant life and career shift.

The coaching change brings a proven winner to Marian University. Drabyn's basketball pedigree is well-established, from his days as an Indiana All-Star and national free-throw record holder at LaPorte High School to his standout playing career at Belmont University. His ability to build a winning culture at Bethel suggests exciting potential for the next chapter of his coaching journey in Indianapolis.
