The Dallas Cowboys have a star wide receiver in George Pickens, but the question on everyone's mind is: will he show up for mandatory workouts? Pickens signed his franchise tag earlier this year, but a long-term deal remains elusive. That uncertainty has sparked speculation that he might skip some key offseason activities.
The real pressure point is the team's June minicamp—the only mandatory work before the deadline for Pickens and the Cowboys to hammer out a multi-year agreement. If Pickens decides to sit out, he'd face fines. But Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones isn't sweating it. Speaking to Adam Schein of Mad Dog Sports Radio, Jones made it clear the team expects Pickens to be there, drawing a parallel to quarterback Dak Prescott's own franchise tag situation back in 2020.
"Haven't been told that. Certainly, that's what we expect," Jones said. "Anytime a player signs a contract, the expectations are that when you sign up, you're under contract, and you're expected to do what your teammates are doing. Go back to Dak—I know he's working with Dak and those type of things. But at the end of the day, we'll see how this thing plays out."
So far, there's no sign of a breakthrough in contract talks. Jones also reiterated that the team has "zero interest" in trading Pickens. That means all eyes will be on the wideout as summer approaches, with the stage set for more speculation—and possibly a resolution—in 2027.
