Stephen Decatur High School is celebrating a major win off the field—or rather, across all fields. The Berlin, Maryland school has been named one of the top 10 best high schools for athletes in the state, according to a recent ranking by USA Today.
Based on a comprehensive study by Niche, which analyzed student and parent feedback, the number of sports offered, state championship wins, and student participation rates, Stephen Decatur secured the No. 9 spot out of 25 schools statewide. It's a testament to the school's commitment to athletic excellence and community support.
The Seahawks have plenty of hardware to back up the ranking. Their football team recently captured back-to-back MPSSAA state titles in 2023 and 2024, while the wrestling program has dominated with five straight dual meet state championships from 2019 to 2024. The boys soccer team added a state title in 2025, and both the softball and boys lacrosse teams were state finalists that same year. That kind of consistent success is a dream for any sports fan—and a perfect reminder of the gear and spirit that fuels these champions.
Fellow Bayside Conference rival Kent Island also made the list, landing just ahead at No. 8.
Whether you're a Seahawk supporter or just love seeing high school athletics thrive, this ranking proves that dedication, teamwork, and the right gear can take you to the top.
