In a significant legal victory for veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs, a Massachusetts jury has found him not guilty on all charges stemming from a December 2024 incident. The 32-year-old, who played the 2025 season with the New England Patriots, was acquitted Tuesday in Dedham District Court on one count of felony strangulation and one count of misdemeanor assault.
The case originated from an alleged altercation with his former live-in chef. According to police reports, the woman claimed that Diggs entered her unlocked bedroom after an ongoing text exchange about disputed payments escalated. She alleged the discussion turned physical, leading to the charges. However, the jury deliberated only briefly before clearing the receiver of any wrongdoing.
Diggs' legal clearance comes at a pivotal moment in his career. After being released by the Patriots in early March as a cost-cutting measure—despite leading the team in both receptions and receiving yards in 2025—the four-time Pro Bowl selection remains a free agent. His three-year, $63.5 million contract with New England was cut short, but this verdict could now reopen the market for one of the NFL's most productive pass-catchers over the past decade.
A fifth-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2015, Diggs has also suited up for the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans before his brief stint in New England. Known for his precise route-running and game-breaking ability, he has amassed over 9,000 receiving yards and 50 touchdowns in his career. With his name now cleared and his on-field track record intact, expect teams in need of a veteran playmaker to come calling as offseason workouts approach.
