Could star wide receiver Stefon Diggs be heading home to play for the Washington Commanders? The buzz has been building all week, and the latest social media activity has fans dreaming of a blockbuster move.

Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowler and Montgomery County, Maryland native, recently had his legal hurdles cleared after being found not guilty on felony strangulation and assault charges. Now, at 32 years old, he’s a free agent coming off yet another 1,000-yard season—most recently as Drake Maye’s go-to target for the 2025 AFC champion New England Patriots. For a Commanders team desperately needing a second starting receiver, the fit seems natural.

The intrigue kicked into high gear when Washington defensive end Charles Omenihu posted a simple "burgundy and gold" reply to Diggs’ Instagram message about wanting to play in 2026. Diggs responded with a pair of eyeball emojis, sending fans into a frenzy.

But the real tease came over the weekend. During a Mother’s Day event in the DMV area, Diggs was asked directly about a potential move to Washington. "Yeah, a little bit," he told 106.7 The Fan, admitting he’s been in touch with some Commanders players. "I'm familiar with the city and I'm familiar with the people. So, we gonna see down the pipe over these next couple of months. What looks good, what makes sense. I definitely wanna shed some light on them and might go check 'em out for a little bit. It's love. It's hometown. So, it makes sense, but right now, I kinda like to take a breath. I've been training, I've been doing everything I'm supposed to."

The social media saga continued on Wednesday when an Instagram page called "Redskins Alumni" posted an image of Diggs in a Commanders uniform alongside quarterback Jayden Daniels. With the offseason still young and Diggs taking his time, all eyes are on whether this hometown connection becomes a reality. For Commanders fans, the emojis and hints are making for an exciting waiting game.
