The Pittsburgh Steelers have added some fresh talent to their tight end room, signing former New England Patriots draft pick Jaheim Bell to a one-year contract, the team announced Monday.
Bell, a seventh-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft out of South Carolina, showed flashes of potential in limited action as a rookie. In three appearances with the Patriots, he hauled in two receptions for 20 yards and a touchdown—a promising start for a late-round pick. After his stint in New England, Bell spent time on the practice squads of both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Steelers in 2025. He inked a futures deal with the Eagles this past January but was waived in late April, opening the door for Pittsburgh to bring him into the fold.
With OTAs and minicamp on the horizon, Bell joins a tight end group that already features Darnell Washington, Pat Freiermuth, Riley Nowakowski, JJ Galbreath, Lake McRee, and Chamon Metayer. Freiermuth, a reliable pass-catcher, and Washington, known for his blocking prowess, anchor the unit, while Bell’s athleticism and versatility could carve out a role in the Steelers’ offense. It’s a deep room, and competition for roster spots will heat up as training camp approaches.
This signing adds another layer to Pittsburgh’s offseason moves as they look to bolster their roster for the challenges ahead. The Steelers are gearing up for one of the NFL’s toughest schedules in 2026, and every position battle counts. As the team navigates contract talks with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers and scouts potential linebacker targets for the coming seasons, adding depth like Bell’s could prove valuable in the long run.
