The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to reshape their offensive line this offseason, and their latest move comes straight out of rookie minicamp. After an impressive tryout, the team has officially signed former Michigan Wolverines center Greg Crippen.
Crippen brings a winning pedigree to the Steel City. He started all 13 games for Michigan last season, was a key piece of their 2023 National Championship run, and appeared in 41 games over five collegiate seasons. At six-foot-four, he has the size to compete at the next level, and his experience in a pro-style offense at Michigan makes him an intriguing developmental prospect.
While his Relative Athletic Score of 5.03 out of 10.00 may not jump off the page, Crippen's game is built on technique and reliability—qualities the Steelers value highly in the trenches. He earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors in 2025, underscoring his steady production.
Of course, the depth chart won't be easy to crack. Pittsburgh's starting center, Zach Frazier, is already regarded as one of the best in the league. Behind him, Ryan McCollum is slated to return as the primary backup, and the team also signed former Cowboys offensive lineman Brock Hoffman in free agency—a player with starting experience at the position. Crippen will have to battle hard for a 53-man roster spot when training camp kicks off this summer.
To make room on the roster, the Steelers released offensive tackle Sataoa Laumea, a former sixth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks who had signed a futures deal back in January.
For a team that prides itself on physical, blue-collar football, adding another battle-tested Big Ten lineman feels like a natural fit. Whether Crippen can climb the depth chart remains to be seen, but his rookie minicamp performance has already earned him a shot.
