The Pittsburgh Steelers' star wide receiver DK Metcalf has officially been cleared of criminal charges following his on-field altercation with a Detroit Lions fan during the team's December 2025 game at Ford Field. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced on Friday, May 1, that after a thorough review of all evidence—including video footage, interviews with stadium security, and eyewitness accounts—they have declined to press charges against the 28-year-old wideout.

The incident occurred on December 21, 2025, when Metcalf was seen in a tense exchange with a fan seated near the Steelers' bench. Video footage showed Metcalf grabbing the fan's jersey and appearing to strike him in the face. According to prosecutors, the fan, identified as Ryan Kennedy, was holding a Metcalf jersey at the time, reportedly seeking an autograph. "As he approached the front railing of the stands, he said something to Mr. Metcalf," the prosecutor's office stated. "There was a brief interaction where Mr. Metcalf grabbed his shirt and pushed him back. The fan did not appear to be injured, nor did he seek medical attention at the game."

Metcalf's legal team expressed relief at the decision, with his attorney praising the "hard work and thorough investigation that led to this just result." However, the legal battle is far from over. Kennedy's lawyer has confirmed that the civil lawsuit against Metcalf—filed in February—will proceed. The lawsuit also names Ford Field management and former NFL stars Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson, alleging they played a role in making defamatory statements about the fan following the incident.

For the Steelers and Metcalf, this marks another chapter in a season already filled with drama. The NFL previously suspended Metcalf for two games without pay in connection with the altercation, a penalty that has already been served. As the team looks ahead to the upcoming season, Metcalf will be eager to put this distraction behind him and focus on what he does best: making big plays on the field. For fans and collectors, this serves as a reminder that even off-the-field moments can have lasting impacts—and that the gear we wear, from jerseys to sidelines apparel, is part of the story.
