The Pittsburgh Steelers have been busy this offseason, making headlines with a blockbuster trade for a star wide receiver, aggressive free agency moves, and a promising 2026 NFL Draft class. But according to CBS Sports' Ryan Wilson, the team might not be done yet. Wilson identifies former Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl edge rusher Kyle Van Noy as an ideal free agent target to shore up the Steelers' defensive depth.
"Steelers fans might think they have plenty of depth at edge rusher, but they really don't," Wilson explains. "Beyond starters T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith, the rotation gets thin. Nick Herbig is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and Jack Sawyer—a Day 3 pick last year—shows promise but isn't there yet. Van Noy, even at 35, brings versatility. He can rush off the edge, drop into coverage at linebacker, or even wear the green dot as the defensive signal-caller. Plus, his locker room leadership would be invaluable, especially with Mike Tomlin no longer at the helm."
Van Noy, originally a second-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2014, made his mark during his stints with the New England Patriots and Ravens. Over 12 NFL seasons, he's compiled 561 tackles, 57 sacks, 14 forced fumbles, and four interceptions—a résumé that screams reliability. While he'd be a solid addition as a backup at both edge rusher and inside linebacker, the 2024 Pro Bowler might not be keen on a reduced role. Still, for a Steelers team looking to reload, Van Noy could be the missing piece for a deep playoff run.
