The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback saga took another twist this weekend, as general manager Omar Khan's latest comments have cast serious doubt on a planned meeting with veteran signal-caller Aaron Rodgers.
For weeks, rumors have swirled that the Steelers were set to sit down with the four-time MVP to discuss a potential 2026 season together. But when Khan appeared on the You Better You Bet podcast, he stopped well short of confirming any such meeting was on the horizon.
"I don't know where specifically Aaron is," Khan said. "I can tell you that Aaron and I, and [head coach Mike McCarthy] and Aaron, and Aaron's representatives, we've had some good conversations since the season ended, since Mike got here, and it's been positive. But, yeah, I don't know where [Rodgers] is at this moment. We continue to have conversations and they're positive. And we had a good experience with him last year. I think he would probably echo the same thing. And you know, conversations continue."
That carefully worded response is a far cry from the optimism fans were hoping for. While Khan emphasized the "positive" nature of ongoing talks, his admission that he doesn't know Rodgers' current location suggests a deal—or even a face-to-face meeting—is far from certain.
If Khan's ambiguity wasn't enough to dampen expectations, insider Mark Kaboly also poured cold water on the idea of a weekend sit-down, despite earlier reports suggesting otherwise. It's a classic offseason roller coaster for Steelers fans, who have been waiting to see how the team will address its quarterback situation.
As the NFL offseason continues to heat up, all eyes remain on Pittsburgh. Whether Rodgers ultimately dons the black and gold or not, one thing is clear: this story is far from over.
