The Pittsburgh Steelers are taking a bold, tech-inspired approach to developing rookie quarterback Drew Allar—and it sounds like they're hitting the "factory reset" button on everything he's learned so far.

Selected in the third round of the draft, Allar is getting a complete overhaul of his mechanics and fundamentals. According to ESPN's Brooke Pryor, the team is essentially "uninstalling" his previous football education and "reuploading" their own proven system. Think of it as a software update for a promising young arm.

"They are essentially uninstalling everything he's learned, and they're reuploading their own methods and fundamentals and mechanics with Allar," Pryor reported. She observed head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterbacks coach Tom Arth working closely with Allar, having him run at half-speed to focus on footwork. Allar himself noted the emphasis on widening his base and staying off his toes—a tweak McCarthy believes will help him process the game faster as he adjusts to NFL speed.

It's a strategy that should sound familiar to Steelers fans. McCarthy is the same coach who helped mold Aaron Rodgers into a future Hall of Famer in Green Bay, and Allar is now getting that same meticulous treatment. For a franchise built on quarterback stability, this level of attention to detail is a promising sign.

But Allar isn't the only young signal-caller in Pittsburgh's long-term plans. Will Howard, who spent a season learning behind Rodgers in 2025, is also viewed as a potential future starter. If Howard doesn't pan out, however, the Steelers are clearly laying the groundwork for the Allar era.

For now, the message is clear: Pittsburgh is investing heavily in its quarterback room, and they're not afraid to start from scratch to get it right.
