The Dallas Stars may have been bounced from the Stanley Cup playoffs earlier than hoped, but the team just got a major boost for next season. Star forward Tyler Seguin is expected to be fully ready for training camp ahead of the 2026-27 NHL campaign after a serious knee injury threatened to derail his comeback.

Seguin tore the ACL in his right knee on December 2, an injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season and forced him to watch the Stars' first-round exit from the playoffs—a tough 4-2 series loss to the Minnesota Wild. For a player known for his speed and scoring touch, the recovery has been a unique challenge.

"It was tough. I guess ACLs aren't that common in hockey," Seguin said Monday, via NHL.com. "It was hard to really bounce these questions off other players. There's not even really a true open book on, get on the ice at this time right now, you can then do this, you can now cut this way."

The 34-year-old veteran, who hails from Brampton, Ontario, managed 7 goals and 10 assists for 17 points in just 27 games before the injury. Despite the setback, he's confident he'll return at full strength. "I feel deep down I'll be as strong as ever," Seguin added. "It's like going into the offseason, you have one or two lower-body days, except now you're doing them four days a week."

This positive news comes at a crucial time for the Stars. Seguin is entering the final year of his eight-year, $78.8 million contract, which carries a $9.85 million cap hit. The 2026-27 season could very well be his last in Dallas, making his return to form all the more significant for a team eyeing another deep playoff run.

For Stars fans, the sight of Seguin back on the ice in training camp will be a welcome one—a reminder that even after a tough season, the core of this team is ready to compete again.
