Apr. 27—The New York Mets promoted A.J. Ewing, a 2023 Springboro High School graduate, to Triple-A on Monday, April 27, after he hit .349 with 12 stolen bases in 18 games at Double-A.
Ewing, 21, plays second base and the outfield. He is the third-ranked prospect in the Mets organization and the 85th-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB.com. The Mets drafted him in the fourth round in 2023, and he chose to start his professional baseball career that year rather than attend the University of Alabama.
Ewing hit .286 at the rookie level in the Florida Complex League in 2023. He spent most of the 2024 season at Single-A with the St. Lucie Mets, hitting .228 with 10 home runs.
In 2024, Ewing hit .288 in 78 games with the Brooklyn Cyclones at the Advanced A level. He earned a promotion to Double-A for the first time that same season and hit .339 in 28 games with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
Ewing appeared in 10 Grapefruit League games with the Mets in spring training and hit .381. He started the season in Binghamton and now will stay in New York to play for the Triple-A Syracuse Mets.
