The Spartanburgers are making a habit of leaving Asheville with souvenirs—baseballs that is. For the second straight game, Hub City launched four home runs, powering their way to a 6-4 victory over the Tourists at HomeTrust Park. With the win, Spartanburgers improve to 18-16, while Asheville slides to 8-27.
The long ball parade started in unusual fashion. Chandler Pollard delivered an inside-the-park home run in the second inning, the second in Hub City history (Rafe Perich hit the first last season, also in Asheville). Quincy Scott, Antonis Macias, and Yeison Morrobel followed with solo shots over the right field wall, giving Spartanburgers all the offense they needed.
Asheville struck first against starter Enrique Segura, who allowed a leadoff double to Justin Thomas Jr. that turned into a run on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly. But Segura settled in nicely, retiring nine of the last ten batters he faced over 4 1/3 innings, striking out three along the way.
The pivotal moment came in the second inning. After Asheville's Yeriel Santos (2-1) struck out the side in the first, the first four Spartanburgers reached base in the second. Despite some defensive help—two Hub City runners were thrown out at second—Scott walked and Ben Hartl singled. Pollard then crushed a line drive that split the outfielders, who collided in the gap. Scott and Hartl scored easily as Pollard raced around third and slid headfirst into home, beating the relay throw. That made it 3-1, and Hub City never looked back.
Santos settled in after that, working through 5 2/3 innings, but the Spartanburgers bullpen held firm. Hub City carried a 6-2 lead into the ninth, and though Asheville made it interesting by bringing the potential tying run to the plate, the Spartanburgers closed the door for their second straight series win over the Tourists.
