The Spanish River track team delivered an unforgettable performance at the 4A Region 4 championships, held on May 2 at Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar. Leading the charge for the Sharks were star athletes Preston Sangely and Alba Altunez-Perez, who dominated their events and secured multiple titles.
Preston Sangely was the standout of the day, sweeping the regional championships in the 800, 1,600, and 3,200 meters. His versatility and endurance were on full display, as he outpaced competitors in each distance event. With these wins, Sangely heads into the state championships at Florida State next weekend as a top contender, ready to challenge for more hardware.
Not to be outshone, Preston's brother Casey Sangely finished as runner-up in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, showing the depth of talent in the Sangely family. In the 1,600-meter race, Preston clocked an impressive 4:24.18, while Casey followed closely at 4:25.38. The Sharks' depth was further evident as Spanish River placed four runners among the top six, with Avery Rand taking fourth and Ryan Cook securing sixth.
On the girls' side, newcomer Alba Altunez-Perez, who hails from Spain, made a powerful statement. She led the Sharks with a series of strong performances, adding to the team's overall success and proving that Spanish River's track program is a force to be reckoned with in both boys' and girls' events.
