Former South Carolina women's basketball player Tina Roy is set to become the first girls' basketball coach at American Leadership Blythewood, a new charter school in South Carolina, according to a post from Roy’s Instagram account.

On Roy’s Instagram story, she posted “Thank you Jesus!” And included a photo indicating her hiring.

Roy played under Gamecocks' coach Dawn Staley from 2011-16. She was a part of the program's first three SEC regular-season championships.

Staley expressed her excitement for Roy on X. "TIN back in Cola! Let's gooooo!" Staley said on the platform.

Roy has experience coaching high school girls' basketball. She coached at her alma mater, Kaplan High School in Louisiana, and was named the region's Coach of the Year in 2023. She also served as an assistant at the Galloway School in Atlanta.

American Leadership Blythewood is expected to name several additional hires. The program will be an at-large member of the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) in 2026-27 and will apply for full-time membership for the 2027-28 season.
