Gray gave a candid explanation for his first loss of the season.

Sonny Gray's first loss of the season was a tough one, coming against his former team, the Minnesota Twins. The Boston Red Sox ace was uncharacteristically off his game in a 6-0 defeat, and he didn't shy away from explaining why after the final out.

Gray, a three-time All-Star known for his pinpoint control, struggled to find his rhythm from the mound. Over four innings, he surrendered five runs on nine hits, including two home runs, while managing just a single strikeout. The telling stat? Only 51 of his 93 pitches landed for strikes.

In a candid postgame reflection, Gray pointed to a lack of sharp focus as the primary culprit. "They just beat me... I just couldn't focus as well as I needed to," he admitted. "I knew I didn't have it... I wasn't good at all, and they just made me pay."

He emphasized that despite not feeling like himself physically or mentally, he tried to battle through and compete. Unfortunately, against a relentless Twins lineup, that effort wasn't enough, further taxing a Red Sox bullpen that has been under pressure.

To make matters worse for Boston, the offense provided no support, getting shut out for the game. The loss puts the team in a precarious position heading into the series finale, where they'll look to rookie Connelly Early to help them avoid a sweep and provide some crucial innings for the pitching staff.
