There is something brewing at tight end for the Dallas Cowboys following recent additions. And it should be expected to be one of the best training camp battles for the high-powered offense.

The Dallas Cowboys' tight end room is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing storylines heading into training camp—and it could deliver some serious roster surprises.

On paper, Jake Ferguson is the undisputed TE1 after signing a four-year, $52 million deal. But behind him? It's anyone's guess. The battle for the No. 2 spot is already heating up, and it's poised to be one of the most competitive position fights on this high-powered offense.

Former second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker has the pedigree, but he's struggled to find consistency in three NFL seasons. Meanwhile, Brevyn Spann-Ford—an undrafted free agent who's quietly developed into a well-rounded player—is making a strong case for the TE2 role thanks to his run-blocking and growing production as a pass-catcher. Schoonmaker's roster spot isn't even safe anymore.

But the intrigue doesn't stop there. The battle for TE3 and TE4 (likely the final tight end spot) is just as compelling. Dallas made a statement in undrafted free agency by signing two tight ends as their highest-paid UDFAs: Michael Trigg from Baylor ($280,000 guaranteed) and D.J. Rogers from TCU ($200,000 guaranteed). No other Cowboys UDFA received more than $200,000 in guaranteed money this offseason.

History tells us that when Dallas invests heavily in undrafted rookies, they're serious about giving them a real shot at making the roster. Spann-Ford himself is proof—and so is fullback Hunter Luepke, another high-paid UDFA who made the team as a rookie. The Cowboys clearly see upside in Trigg and Rogers, and multiple reports suggest the team was actively targeting tight end depth.

With Ferguson locked in but everything else up for grabs, this tight end battle is shaping up to be one of the most exciting storylines of Cowboys training camp. Don't be surprised if a few unexpected names emerge.
