The MACCRAY Wolverines softball team is stepping into the 2026 season with serious momentum, aiming to build on the strong foundation they laid at the end of last year. Finishing 7-17 in 2025 doesn't tell the whole story, as the team found its rhythm when it mattered most—in the playoffs.

Securing two postseason victories, including a first-round win over Renville County West and another against Murray County Central, the Wolverines captured their first playoff win since 2021. That late-season surge has created a palpable sense of optimism as the new campaign begins.

Leading the charge is head coach Nancy Thoma, who brings an incredible 48 years of coaching experience to the dugout. She’s supported by a dedicated staff and a core of returning players who know what it takes to compete. The roster blends seasoned veterans with promising young talent, creating a balanced team ready for the Camden Conference grind.

Key seniors like fifth-year starter Reyna Mendoza, who will split time between third base and pitcher, and designated player Annabelle Lorenzen (.333 BA last season) provide crucial leadership. They’re joined by a strong junior class featuring four-year starter Leia Colby (.333 BA), a versatile shortstop and pitcher, alongside reliable two-year starters Eva Swenson and Ava Janssen.

The Wolverines' offensive spark could come from sophomore catcher Ellie Bosch, who led the team in RBIs last year. The lineup is further bolstered by returning sophomores and a pair of dynamic ninth-grade starters, Kresson and Karly Bratsch, who are already making their mark at second base and center field, respectively.

With a mix of experience and youthful energy, MACCRAY is poised to turn last season’s finishing kick into this season’s starting pace. The journey begins with a season opener against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, followed by key early conference matchups.
