Despite powerful performances at the plate, the Troy Lady Trojans were swept by the undefeated Florence Falcons in a Friday softball doubleheader. The Falcons, last year's State B runners-up, improved to 5-0 with a pair of late-inning rallies.
In the opener, Claire Folkerts launched two two-run homers for Troy, but Florence's offense proved overwhelming. Jaden Fisher countered with two homers and five RBIs for the Falcons, who powered their way to an 11-4 win with nine extra-base hits.
The nightcap was a back-and-forth thriller. Troy, hitting as the home team, stormed back with a five-run sixth inning, capped by key hits from Allie Borgmann and Ainsley Huitron, to take an 8-7 lead. However, Florence answered immediately in the seventh, as Maggie Schneiter blasted a decisive three-run homer to seal the 10-8 victory.
Allie Borgmann was a standout for Troy all day, finishing a remarkable 5-for-7 at the plate. While the Lady Trojans (6-3) showed their offensive firepower, the Falcons' clutch hitting and unbeaten record proved too much to overcome in this competitive doubleheader.
