Mike Tomlin is returning to football. But not in the way some would've hoped for, as the former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach is looking make a massive career shift to television — and social media has been buzzing.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Tomlin was set to join NBC to become a studio analyst for Football Night in America, sources told The Athletic.
One social media user on X pointed out that joining NBC, in comparison to other potential networks, may have been a bad choice.
This feels like a waste because he won't be seen by as many people on NBC as he might on other networks. The late-afternoon games don't wrap up until 7:30 to 7:45. Then you get that break where fans watching football all day get away from the TV until 8:15 or so.
It's safe to say that this football fan isn't thrilled about Tomlin's new position, taking aim at the former coach's long-worded Tomlinisms.
Love him or hate him, Tomlin has been pure entertainment during media availabilities. And that isn't lost on this social media reaction.
tomlin on football night in america is going to be must watch television. nbc just added one of the most compelling personalities in the entire sport

Yes please get him and Roger’s as far away from Pittsburgh as possible,
This social media user on X believes Tomlin may find more success in his new career than he has making in-game adjustments. And he's not necessarily wrong.
He will be far better at this than he was at coaching. Always was gifted with his words… not so much in adjusting and gameplans.
