Arne Slot is confident he'll be leading Liverpool into next season, despite a challenging campaign that fell short of expectations.
The Liverpool head coach has faced scrutiny after a season that will end without any silverware, a stark contrast to the highs of the previous year. However, Slot remains unfazed about his position at Anfield.
"I don't think I'm deciding that alone, but I have every reason to believe that I am the Liverpool manager next season," Slot stated. "First of all, I'm contracted to this club, and second of all, from all the talks we're having, that is my take on it."
The Dutchman acknowledged the criticism that comes with a disappointing season, especially when compared to last year's success. "This has definitely not been a great season, and it's normal that criticism comes. I think we've all had our share—the players, the manager, and other people in the club. That is how things work nowadays if you don't win the league."
Slot drew a comparison between modern football scrutiny and the past. "This happened 10 or 15 years ago as well, but you did it in a pub and not everyone heard it. Now it's probably also done in a pub—if I read what they are saying, they must have drank a little bit. That's a joke, by the way."
Despite the pressure, Slot revealed that plans for next season are already in motion. "I think the world has gone to a place where, if a manager or a club doesn't have their best season, there is always debate about that. It's not only at Liverpool; it's all around the world. That is also the new reality in football."
With a contract in place and ongoing discussions about the future, Slot seems poised to stay the course at Liverpool, ready to bounce back when the new season kicks off.
