What was supposed to be a high-energy pregame moment at Virginia Tech turned into a tense scene after a skydiver flew into the stadium scoreboard and got stuck.
The parachuter had been part of a planned entrance ahead of the Hokies’ spring game on Saturday (April 18), descending into the stadium while carrying a large American flag.
But as the skydiver approached the field, the parachute caught on the top of the scoreboard, leaving the individual suspended high above the crowd.
Fans watched as the chute became tangled near the upper structure of the board, with the skydiver unable to free themselves. At one point during the ordeal, the person released the flag and additional gear, which fell into the seating area below.

The situation reportedly lasted for roughly 20 minutes, drawing concern from those in attendance as stadium officials paused pregame activities. Emergency responders were eventually able to reach the skydiver and bring them down safely.

University officials later confirmed that the individual was not injured and was in stable condition following the incident.
The unexpected delay pushed the start of the spring game back by more than an hour, shifting the tone of what had been intended as a celebratory kickoff under new head coach James Franklin.
