The stage is set for a winner-take-all Game 7, and Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe is ready for the moment. After trailing the Boston Celtics 3-1 in this first-round series, the Sixers have rallied to force a decisive showdown at TD Garden on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
For Edgecombe, this game carries special meaning. It was in Boston where he made his NBA debut on Oct. 22, delivering a historic performance in a win over the Celtics. Now, he returns to the same floor for the biggest game of his young career.
"It's crazy to think about it. First game was here. Now, we're in the playoffs playing here," Edgecombe said. "I've been in this building a lot now, and this is just my first year. I feel like I've been here a lot."
The rookie guard has shown a knack for rising to the occasion against Boston, including a standout showing in Game 2 of this series. His ability to perform under pressure has been a constant theme, but Edgecombe isn't resting on past success.
"Boston's a really good team, so I know it's gonna be a real competitive game. Everything else is gonna be out the window," he added. "All previous times we've played here is out of the window. It's all about focus on tonight."
When asked about his success against the Celtics, Edgecombe keeps it simple. "I just be in a flow," he said. "That's a really good team we're playing against. So, I just feel like I have to step up my game and be the best I can be."
Looking back at his development since that October debut, Edgecombe sees growth across the board. "Just, I'll be honest, everywhere," he said. "As a player, in general, I feel like I've just been getting better and better. Even when it comes to offense and me defensively, I feel like I've just been getting better."
With a trip to the second round on the line, all eyes will be on the rookie to see if he can deliver once again when it matters most.
