UConn gets a key contributor back for next season.

The UConn Huskies' quest for a third national title in five years just got a major boost. Star guard Silas Demary Jr. announced on Instagram that he will return to Storrs for the 2026-27 season, securing a foundational piece for the reigning national runners-up.

Demary's decision marks a significant win for head coach Dan Hurley, providing stability and elite playmaking as the roster evolves. He becomes the second key player, alongside rising senior Jayden Ross, to commit to returning, offering a counterbalance to the departures of centers Eric Reibe and Rrezon Elezaj via the transfer portal.

This move could also have a ripple effect on the decisions of other Huskies, including Braylon Mullins, Solo Ball, and Jaylin Stewart, who are weighing their options regarding the NBA draft and the transfer portal. Demary's presence signals UConn's continued championship ambitions.

After transferring from Georgia, Demary was an immediate force in his first season with the Huskies. Starting 38 of 40 games, he averaged 10.1 points and 4.5 rebounds, but his real impact was as a two-way floor general. He led the entire Big East with 6.0 assists per game (229 total) and anchored the defense with a team-high 62 steals, earning him spots on the All-Big East First Team and the Big East All-Defensive Team.

His season was punctuated by highlights like a 23-point outing at Providence and a triple-double against Bryant. Even an ankle sprain in the NCAA tournament couldn't keep him off the court for long; he battled through the pain to help propel UConn to its eighth Final Four.

Now, with an expected clean bill of health, Demary is poised to be the nucleus of both the offense and defense next season. His return ensures UConn's trademark defensive intensity and ball movement remain intact. While the Huskies will still likely seek backcourt depth in the portal following Malachi Smith's departure, Demary's leadership and elite skill set make UConn an immediate favorite to cut down the nets once again.
