Summer is almost here, and for area golfers, that means one thing: it's time to tee it up for the season's first local "Major." The 30th annual Medalist Tournament is set to take place June 20-21 at Rolling Meadows and Cascade, and sign-ups are officially underway.
This milestone event marks three decades of competitive golf, kicking off the summer scene in style. Registration is open now through June 13, but early birds who sign up before May 18 will score some special swag. With the field limited to just 88 players, you'll want to act fast to secure your spot.
Entry fees are budget-friendly: $40 for men's senior, super senior (age 65+), and master super senior divisions, and only $10 for juniors and women. You can pay via Venmo to tournament organizer Rick Scherer at @Richard-Scherer-14 or mail a check to 4074 W. State Road 45, Bloomington, IN 47403. Just make sure paid entries are received by June 13.
Green and cart fees are separate: $35 for a round at Rolling Meadows ($22 for walking juniors), and $42 at Cascades for non-season pass holders. All divisions will be flighted after the first round, with women playing a single round at Cascades.
For any questions, reach out to Scherer at 812-360-4811 or medalist1997@gmail.com. And if you're already looking ahead, Cascades Golf Course will begin sign-ups for the 98th City Golf Tournament later this month. Qualifying for Championship flights runs June 27-28, with match play set for July 11-12 and 18-19.
