Following a playoff collapse that exposed his physical limits, a transformed C.J. Stroud enters OTAs with an elite physique designed to erase past mistakes and dominate 2026.

C.J. Stroud has arrived at OTAs looking like a completely different athlete—and for Texans fans, that’s exactly the kind of statement they needed to see.

In the NFL, the "best shape of his life" narrative is a spring tradition, often reserved for aging veterans or draft picks trying to prove they belong. But when photos of a visibly shredded Stroud started circulating this week, it felt like more than just offseason hype. This is a quarterback sending a message: the playoff collapse that ended his 2025 season will not define him.

Let’s rewind to January. The Texans’ playoff run didn’t just end—it imploded. Stroud threw four interceptions in a brutal loss to the Patriots, a shocking regression for a quarterback whose rookie season was defined by historic poise and elite ball security. That game exposed a physical limit, and Stroud clearly took notes.

The "everyman physique" from his first two seasons is gone. In recent training photos—often alongside a recovering Tank Dell—Stroud looks leaner, more explosive, and dialed in. By shedding weight and sharpening his frame, he’s prioritizing the mobility and stamina that can make all the difference in a league where a split-second scramble can turn a sack into a first down.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans has already taken notice, praising Stroud for being "revved up" and "locked in" during early strength and conditioning sessions.

"He’s been dialed into our strength sessions, our coaching sessions, and our meetings. That’s all you can ask for," Ryans said.

When your quarterback shows up looking like he spent his entire offseason in a squat rack, it sets a standard for the entire roster. It tells everyone that the "sophomore slump" and the third-year turbulence aren’t becoming a permanent identity.

But physical transformation is only half the story. Stroud is also navigating a coaching shift with a new quarterbacks coach, adding another layer of adjustment to his offseason. If his new physique is any indication, he’s ready to erase past mistakes and dominate in 2026.
