Does the veteran make sense for New Orleans as a camp body?

As the New Orleans Saints gear up for their offseason program, a familiar name has surfaced as a potential depth addition for the secondary: veteran safety Nasir Adderley. The former Los Angeles Chargers 2019 second-round pick was recently released by the Indianapolis Colts, and now the question is whether the Saints should bring him in as a camp body to push their younger defensive backs.

Adderley, 28, is attempting an NFL comeback after stepping away from the game at age 25 to prioritize his health, family, and life beyond football. Three years later, he says he's proud of his personal growth and ready to rejoin the competitive brotherhood of the sport. A stop in the Big Easy could be a natural fit for a player looking to prove he still belongs.

During his four-year tenure with the Chargers, Adderley started 44 games and compiled 232 total tackles (168 solo), 12 pass breakups, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and half a sack. He also contributed on special teams, returning 14 kickoffs for 366 yards with a long of 76 yards.

A product of the University of Delaware and a Philadelphia native, Adderley was a standout for the Blue Hens. Over 45 games, he tallied 265 total tackles (165 solo), 33 pass breakups, 11 interceptions, 9.5 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and half a sack. He also returned 35 kicks for 863 yards and a touchdown, with a long of 92 yards, and added two punt returns for 19 yards.

Interestingly, Adderley began his college career at cornerback as a freshman and sophomore before transitioning to safety as a junior. That move paid off, earning him first-team All-CAA honors in both 2017 and 2018.

Adding to his football pedigree, Adderley is the cousin of Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Herb Adderley, a four-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowl selection who won three Super Bowls during his 12-year career with the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys.

So, should the Saints give Nasir Adderley a chance to prove he still has something left in the tank? For a team looking to bolster its secondary depth and add competition during camp, it's a move worth serious consideration.
