The quarterback battle in Cleveland just got a whole lot more personal. As Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson vie for the Browns' starting job, the competition has spilled off the field and into some heated exchanges.
It all started when veteran Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that Watson emerged from the team's recent voluntary minicamp as the frontrunner. She took it a step further on Twitter, voicing her opinion that the Browns should "declare Watson QB1 asap and let the 1st team offense start to cook. There's no time to waste."
That comment didn't sit well with Shedeur's brother, Shilo Sanders. Taking to Instagram, Shilo fired back with a remark that quickly caught fire: "Go make a sandwich Mary."
Cabot, who was honored with the Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2025 Bill Nunn Jr. Award for her long and distinguished career covering the NFL, didn't let the comment slide. During an appearance on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland, she addressed the situation with class and perspective.
"I really do believe that I have been an inspiration for lots of women and young girls to know that you can go out there and do a good job in a man's world," Cabot said. "I know that there are so many women who have joined the football world because of some of the things I've been able to do over the years. I'm happy about that and I know that will continue."
Rather than backing down, Shilo doubled down on his stance during his Twitch stream. "If you're gonna be a reporter, be a reporter and report facts," he said. "Whenever you have your opinion, and your opinion is always something hateful to Shedeur, then it makes you wonder what's really going on."
With training camp on the horizon and the Browns' QB1 spot still up for grabs, this story is far from over. One thing's for sure—the intensity of this competition is already at game-day levels, and we haven't even hit the preseason yet.
